Yarny from Unravelled Crochet Amigurumi Pattern

Information

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate. As long as you can make a magic ring/circle and work single crochets in rounds, increase, decrease and stitch together, then you’ll be fine!

Yarn: Red cotton yarn 150 grams (depending on how much you use to wrap) and scraps of white. You could also use DK.
Feel free to use any yarn type as long as you use the correct hook size for that yarn and expect that the results will vary slightly from mine.

Other materials needed: Scissors, yarn needle for sewing together, toy stuffing and a stitch marker (unless you prefer to count).

Hook: 3 mm. Again, use the hook that fits the yarn. A yarn hook suggestion is normally written on the yarn label.

I will be using US terminology even though I am from the UK because I was taught how to crochet by some lovely American people on YouTube. If you have trouble understanding US terminology, I have included a stitch conversion chart below.

The Pattern
Legs
Round 1: Form a magic ring and make 6 sc in the ring (6 sts).
Round 2 (inc): (Sc2inc) 6 times (12 sts).
Round 3-26: 1 sc in each sc around.
First leg: slip stitch into the the next sc and fasten off.
Second leg: don’t fasten off. Chain 5 and join with a slip stitch to the top of the first leg.
Round 27: Sc around 11 sc and chain 5 to join to the second leg again.
Sew a few stitches through the ankle and out the other side to make the indents that create the feet (see photo).

Torso
Continue on working the tops of the legs.
Round 28-45: Sc in each sc around (18 rounds).
The main idea here is to decrease around the edges of the torso to form shoulders and a slight neck, as directed below.
Round 46: Sc to the corner of the torso, sc2dec, 15 sc, sc2dec
Round 47: 13 sc, sc2dec, 14 sc, sc2dec.

Round 50: Sc2dec, 10 sc, sc2dec, 14 sc.
Round 51: Sc in each sc around.
Round 52: Sc2dec, 11 sc, sc2dec, 10 sc.
Round 5-54: Sc in each sc around.
Slip stitch and fasten off.
Sew up the hole in the crotch and stuff the torso.

Work around the foundation chain in rounds.
Round 1 (inc): Sc in second chain from hook, 22 sc, sc2inc, 21 sc, sc2inc (48 sts).

Round 23 (dec): 3 sc, sc2dec, 10 sc, sc2dec, 7 sc (22 sts).
Round 23: Sc in each sc around.
Slip stitch and fasten off.
Sew through the tips at the top of the head to exaggerate the horn-like shape.
Stuff the head and sew to the torso. Weave in any loose ends.

Arms (make 2)
Round 1: Form a magic ring and make 6 sc in the ring (6 sts).
Round 2 (inc): (Sc2inc, 1 sc) 3 times (9 sts).
Round 3-28: Sc in each sc around (26 rounds).
Sew the top closed and sew to the join of the head and the torso. Don’t worry if it is rough because it will be covered with the yarn later on. Do not stuff the arms because it makes them more flimsy like the real Yarny.

Wrapping
Now begin winding the yarn. Cut a long length of yarn. Put your yarn needle through the lower toros, near the crotch and sew through the body until the entire crotch is covered.
Next, cut off another piece of yarn and thread through the yarn needle. Sew into the body, leaving a small tail which can be sewn in later. Wrap yarn around the torso in a horizontal fashion until the entire torso and head is wrapped. Sew into the stuffing occasionally to ensure it is secure. Exaggerate the horns by wrapping and sewing tightly.
Wrap and sew around the arms and the legs until you are satisfied that it is completely wrapped as in the photo. Wrap thicker over the hands.
Sew in a piece of yarn behind his back for him to play with and hang from!

Eyes
Using white yarn, roughly sew about twenty stitches in a landscape oval shape, as in the photo.
